CHILDREN were given a taste of another continent when Africa came to Ashfield Valley Primary School.
The Rochdale school has been learning about the history and culture of Africa with a whole range of events, from constructing model African villages to sampling exotic and healthy South African-style school dinners.
A highlight of the week was a display of African music in which the children were able to experience traditional African drums.
Headteacher Liz Palmer said: “The children were enthralled by the audio extravaganza of the traditional West African musical display.
“This was performed on the African drum, known as djembe, which is an integral part of the region’s musical tradition and culture.
“I am sure the memory of the rich African rhythm and the beating of the drums will be a treasured memory for the children.”
