A SCHOOLBOY filmed his face while he said the words 'eyes of a killer' just an hour after a man was found dead following a brutal and vicious attack, a court heard.

The seven-second long clip was discovered on the 15-year-old's mobile phone as police investigated the killing.

The schoolboy, who is now 16 and cannot be named for legal reasons, later blamed a friend for punching and kicking 28-year-old Asaf Mahmood Ahmed, who died from an asthma attack caused by the assault.

But at Manchester Crown Court the prosecution said the boy and his teenage pal Jason Bolton were both involved in the murder. Both defendants deny the charge.

"The victim was subjected to a sustained and brutal attack and suffered an acute asthma attack from which he died," Brian Cummings QC told the jury.

Mr Ahmed was killed behind the Derby Ward Labour Club in Deane, Bolton, just minutes after the defendants had attacked another man, Mark Hampson, in a nearby road.

Fortunately Mr Hampson escaped unhurt but the prosecution told the jury the attacks showed the probable motive of the defendants was to inflict 'random violence'.

Mr Cummings told the jury: "The question of a racial motive will inevitably arise in this case.

Random violence

"But the prosecution suggest the probable motive was to inflict random violence whether to a white man, such as Mr Hampson, or to an Asian man, such as Mr Ahmed.

"But it is clear that Jason Bolton has a very nasty attitude to Asian people which no doubt added fuel to his attack on Mr Ahmed."

Mr Cummings said Mr Ahmed, of Broomfield Road, Bolton, had gone out to a local shop when he was attacked behind the club, just four days before Christmas last year. A 16-year-old girl, who lived nearby and knew both defendants, saw the attack from her bedroom window.

"Two teenage males were kicking and stamping on his head," said Mr Cummings.

"It went on for two to three minutes and then the taller one jumped with both feet on the victim's head seven or eight times."

They then ran off as Mr Ahmed tried to get up and use his asthma inhaler.

As people rushed to help, Bolton, 19, who was drunk and agitated, was spotted nearby.

He was stopping cars, shouting and swearing and claiming some Asians had killed his friend.

He was claiming a group had chased him and his friend who he later found murdered. But when he was arrested Mr Ahmed's blood was found on his trainers and clothing and marks on the victim's trousers also matched Bolton's footwear.

The schoolboy was arrested at his home and when quizzed claimed he was 'in fear' of Bolton who, he alleged, had carried out the attack on Mr Ahmed. But when his home was searched police found his mobile phone which revealed that just an hour after the killing he had filmed himself with the camera.

"He used it to record a short video clip of his own face with the words 'eyes of the killer'," said Mr Cummings.

He added that the level and persistence of the violence inflicted by Bolton showed he intended to kill Mr Ahmed.

The schoolboy was 'less active' but he joined in the attack, punching and kicking the victim to the head and 'at the very least' intended to cause serious harm.
