A LONG-serving doctor has retired from his surgery after 38 years.
Dr Abdul Rauf started working in general practice at Healey Surgery in 1970 and spent years serving the local community.
He recently retired from the medical profession and was thanked by colleagues and patients for his support over the period.
A spokesman for the surgery praised his dedication and said he was a positive example to all young doctors.
He said: "He was a caring doctor who also managed a well-organised practice to provide the best service to his patients."
In October, Dr Rauf featured in the Observer when he spent his last morning on the bench at Rochdale Magistrates’ Court.
He worked as a magistrate for 31 years. He was also a member of the Rochdale Advisory Committee and formerly a governor at Matthew Moss High School and All Saints’ Primary School.
