DO you know someone who deserves that extra little bit of recognition?

Applications are now open for the 2009 Fusion awards.

From those working in a voluntary capacity to those reaching new heights in their chosen career - the Fusion Awards want to reward their endeavours.

The concept of the awards is to give recognition to those who take part in community work but do not always remain in the public domain.

The awards are open to all regardless of culture, background or religion.

You can nominate yourself or someone else.

The finalists will attend a dazzling dinner event which will include the fantastic Fusion fashion show.

Winners of the awards have included Sheraz Arshad and Farouk Hussain of the Clitheroe Mosque Project; Anila Baig of the Sun Newsppaper, Canon Chris Chivers, of Blackburn Cathedral and Ferrari Faqiri.

An Education Achievement Award will also be awarded on the night to a student who has achieved outstanding grades despite the odds.

Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges who themsleves will be community workers.

  • Entrepreneur of the year
    A businessman or woman who in the past year has seen their idea reach fruition.
  • Community group of the Year
    We want to hear from community and voluntary groups that make a valued contribution to the towns and city’s in which they reside.
  • Man of the year
    Do you know a man who has excelled in the past year in their chosen career or has battled through against the odds?
  • Woman of the year
    Do you know a woman who has excelled in the past year in their chosen career or has battled through against the odds?
  • Sports personality Award
    We are looking for sportsmen and women who through their efforts have inspired others to follow their dreams.
  • Public Service Award
    Will be awarded to a person who has reached new heights in his or her chosen career by working in a North West Council, public service body and health service.
  • Youth Leadership Award
    Do you know a young person who has helped to dispel myths about your community or has volunteered for the betterment of others?
  • Community Cohesion award
    Will be awarded to an individual or group who has helped breakdown cultural and religious barriers between communities through pioneering volunteer or paid-for work.
HOW TO ENTER: All you have to do is simply write no more than 200 words why you, your chosen person or your group should be nominated as a finalist for this year's event which takes place in May.
