SAJID Mahmood could be in for a recall to the England Test side after Ryan Sidebottom suffered another injury setback.

The Nottinghamshire bowler missed this morning's third one-day international against India after suffering some discomfort to his lower back.

The results of an emergency scan proved inconclusive, and England coach Peter Moores is now keeping a close eye on him before deciding whether to call-up reinforcements.

Sidebottom (pictured) hasn't played for England in any form of cricket since the third Test against South Africa at Edgbaston in August because of side and Achilles injuries.

However, he was pencilled in for today's clash, before this latest setback.

Lancashire quicky Mahmood flies to India tomorrow with the England Performance Programme Squad and, if it is decided Sidebottom can't continue on the tour, which has another four one-day internationals and two Tests, he could well get the nod.

Mahmood suffered a side strain which kept him out of Lancashire's final three County matches, however, he revealed to M.E.N. Sport earlier this week he had fully recovered.

However, he is yet to bowl off a full run-up and both Tim Bresnan and Liam Plunkett, who are also on the England Performance Programme, will be in contention to take up a place if it became available.

"Ryan's having a bit of an unlucky run," said his Nottinghamshire and England team-mate Graeme Swann.

"He got injured during the summer and had a long rehabilitation trying to get back.

"It's taken him so long to get back from a serious injury and little niggles are keeping him out.

"As far as I'm concerned, I'm desperate to see Ryan playing again because he's one of my best mates - and I think English cricket needs that sort of haircut in the team!

"He's obviously down but he's the sort of character that can easily be distracted with an episode of Max And Paddy or something like that, so it's not hard to keep his spirits up. He's just desperate like everyone else in the squad to get into the team and perform for England."
