Lal Masjid students to stage shroud clad demo today

30/ 8/2007

Angry Students of Lal Masjid in Islamabad along with local Residents will stage a sit in and hold shroud demonstration today protesting against closure of the Mosque.

Lal Masjid student Amina Haq, Sidra Saeed, Saeed Hasam, Ghazala, Sajida and others expressed their anger and hatred over closure of the mosque since Operation Silence.

They say that the Musharraf government has failed to control the present crisis and that they will strongly protest over the closure in the form of sit in and shroud clad .

The students said they were fed up with lame excuses of the district administration concerning reopening of the mosque, adding that the students could not be confined to their homes.

The students vowed to carry on the mission of their teachers and fellows, who had sacrificed their lives during the Lal Masjid operation.

They urged the Supreme Court to help restore the Jamia Hafsa seminary and reopen the Lal Masjid and order a judicial inquiry into the killing of, what they claimed, 2,000 innocent students of Jamia Hafsa and Jamia Faridia.

They said the operation against Lal Masjid and demolition of Jamia Hafsa was a crime committed by the government. They accused security forces of manhandling students when they were raising their voice for their demands.

The protesting female students dispersed peacefully around 3pm after Assistant Commissioner Maryam Khan assured them that their concerns would be conveyed to higher authorities.
