Nazir Ali needs to promote cohesion and not division
3/ 6/2008
THE Ramadhan Foundation strongly condemns Nazir Ali, Bishop of Rochester for his comments attacking Islam, multi culturalism and freedom. Once again he seems to make fleeting statements without any evidence and tries to demonise Islam and belittle the value Muslims bring to this country.
There is no evidence that the vacuum left by the Christian faith in this country is being filled by extremists, on the contrary it is being filled by secularists and an obsession with celebrity, fame and money. The Muslim community cannot be held responsible for the failing of other faiths, Nazir Ali should be searching within his own church to see where the failings are.
The values he talks about like freedom, respect and tolerance are what makes the United Kingdom unique and widely liked around the world, these values have brought great benefits to communities across the nation, we accept there are some challenging times for community cohesion but honesty and a commitment to these values will ensure cohesion and respect.
Everything this man says are based on fiction and promoting intolerance and fear amongst communities. We totally condemn him and also believe that he is doing no justice to the millions of citizens that share the need to build cohesive communities.
Islam is on the rise because people recognise and are inspired by the trueness of our faith; whilst recognising that we live in a majority Christian country we are a multi faith society that believes in freedom, tolerance and respect. It is time Nazir Ali returns to his Christian values of tolerance and respect and not bigotry.
We all have a duty to work together to build cohesive communities and not establish division, Nazir Ali should hang his head in shame.
Mohammed Shafiq, Director of the Ramadhan Foundation
