Bizarre stunt
1/11/2004
THE US government should issue an apology to Mr. Yusuf Islam
(former pop star Kat Stevens) for detaining him and then banning
him from their country.
This prominent Muslim has been honoured by the British government
for his dedication to establishing education institutes.Given that
he was not charged with anything and in the total absence of any
criminal investigations into his activities the actions of the US
authorities are simply bizarre.
This type of foolish stunt bears negative political consequences
and raises serious questions over US government's flawed and
twisted intelligence.
The way in which this peace activist was treated will only
infuriate and intimidate the global Muslim community, augment the
sense of fear and all but scupper the efforts of finding the real
terrorists.
I believe this type of frenzy aggression is evidence that no one is
immune from suspicion, even a man with the stature of Yusuf
Islam.
