David Royds

A MAN who gained two degrees in physics and applied maths with the Open University has died aged 54.

Mr David Royds BA died at his home in Spencer Street, Accrington. He was buried at Accrington Cemetery on Thursday 10 July.

Mr Royds trained as an apprentice toolmaker at Royal Ordnance, Blackburn, and remained there for 20 years.

He spent five years training at Blackburn College as an engineer and went on to work as a senior project engineer in the altitude test facility at Smiths Aerospace Components in Burnley from 1992 to 2006.

He enjoyed DIY and researching local history and geneology, having traced his family history back hundreds of years. He built up a comprehensive library of the Royds family including his own life story.

The son of Anne Royds and the late Leslie, he leaves a daughter Kelly, grandson Nathan, sister Marylyn and brother Paul.
