Rafta, Rafta@The Lowry, from Tuesday

18/ 2/2008

A heartwarming new comedy set in Oldham is heading to the Lowry direct from the National Theatre in London.

Rafta Rafta was written by Ayub Khan-Din, the Salford-born author whose play East is East, about Indian families in the north west, became a smash-hit film.

He has adapted this entertaining comic tale of close-knit Indian family life in England from Bolton writer Bill Naughton’s classic All in Good Time, which later became Sixties film The Family Way.

The wedding feast is over and his father is dancing the bhangra, but the groom is busy on the net.

When it’s time for bed, he’s so woefully inhibited by the proximity of his parents that his beautiful virgin bride remains just that.

Bollywood favourite Harish Patel stars, with the beautifully feisty bride played by Rokhsaneh Ghawam-Shahidi, who has appeared in Emmerdale and Sinchronicity.

Rafta rafta runs from Tuesday, February 19 to Saturday, February 23. To book call 0870 787 5793 or visit www.thelowry.com.
