R'n'b star Jay Sean is hit at Newham event

THE sound of Asian Britain came to Newham once again as some of the biggest Asian musical acts appeared at ‘Under the Stars’, the annual music and entertainment event supported by BBC Asian Network digital radio and organised by Newham Council.

Award-winning Asian Network drive time presenter Adil Ray and presenter Noreen were accompanied by turntable demon DJ Kayper as they hosted the night which saw some of the best of British Asian and Bollywood talent take to the stage.

Multi-award winning R‘n’B artist and international music star Jay Sean headlined the music and dance extravaganza and performed some of his chart topping hits including ‘Ride it’ and ‘Maybe’.

Bollywood singing sensation Labh Janjua sang the song that broke all records in the Bollywood market with ‘Soni De Nakhre’, as featured in the Bollywood hit film Partner.

Further performances from H Dhami, Alyssia, Reenie, Manchester's Metz & Trix, Bee2 featuring Nitasha entertained the crowds, whilst the event also featured new talent including Zeekay, 3 Mix, Virsa Punjab Dancers and Fusion.

Said head of music at Asian Network, Mark Strippel: "Under the Stars offered a great opportunity to spotlight some of the best contemporary Asian music around and positioning new talents such as Zeekay and 3Mix alongside artists like Jay Sean was a really important part of the event".

Ash Kavia, No Limit Productionz and concert producer for the event added: "Year on year this event has proved to be a fantastic night of entertainment for the whole family with the very best artists from the world of Asian music and dance performing".
