Indian dances brighten summer

4/ 5/2004

THE north west's year round South Asian arts festival - Milapfest is back at The Lowry bringing two nights of colourful and vibrant Indian dance.
Dancer Malavika Sarukkai will be presenting her own style of bharat natyam, a graceful South Indian temple dance which dates back thousands of years and originated in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Malavika is one of the UK's renowned contemporary Indian dancers and she will be performing at the Lowry on 9 May.
The summer will also see an evening of dancers and teachers coming together for a showcase of South Asian dance in an event called Nritya Sandhya
The dancers will explore the different styles used in India with their own techniques.
This event on 10 July will feature specially commissioned dance performances and will be presented by the North West Dance Alliance in association with Milapfest.
For more information ring The Lowry on 0870 111 2000.
