One man and his guitar
29/ 4/2005
OLDHAM is fast becoming a hot bed of talent as new writers,
actors and directors are emerging and making their mark in the
creative industry.
One of those is actor/musician Ahad Ullah who is about to make his
directorial debut this month with romantic comedy 'Keela Bultaam' -
How Do I Forget.
The film produced by his own in-house production company, Westwood
Productions, is sure to be a summer hit and a must see Sylheti
film.
Based in Bangladesh and the UK, the film, which was written by and
stars Ahad as the lead role, follows the journey of Raju.
Raju is a carefree son of a rich man who spends his days with his
friends or playing on his guitar.
His country, Bangladesh, which is his first love followed by music
and his girlfriend Trisha (Amina Chowdury).
Raju decides to travel to the UK. But once he arrives in England,
he realises everything he needs is in Bangladesh. So he returns to
Bangladesh, but there are a few surprises in store for him.
Said Ahad: "Many young men in Bangladesh think England is full of
luxuries and money is handed to you on a plate.
"I wanted to show these people that Bangladesh, the country they
grew up in, is actually a beautiful country with just as many
opportunities.
"So here's this guy Raju, who decides to leave everything, money,
family, friends and his girlfriend to come to the UK, but his heart
is in Bangladesh and realises he is better off in his
homeland.
"I have had the idea to do this film for many months and this year
I decided to put my ideas into action and I flew to Bangladesh to
do the filming. I used actors from both countries, for many it was
also their first time, but it has been a learning experience for us
all. It was also the first time I had written a script for a film
and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but most importantly I was able to
show Bangladesh as a colourful vibrant country."
Keela Bultaam is a light-hearted colourful drama with some great
music composed and sang by Ahad and Oldham singer Angur.
The film is full of life and set in a modern context and I believe
this could be Bangladesh's answer to a Bollywood movie. S.B
Keela Bultaam is out on 15 May.
