It’s potty art for the Curry Mile

30/ 7/2007

SUBODH Gupta went completely potty to create his latest piece of public art.

Commissioned to create a work to express the meaning of Manchester's Curry Mile he created a giant ball made up of gleaming stainless steel Indian pots and pans. It stands outside the Whitworth Art Gallery just yards from the top of the Mile on Wilmslow Road.

The distinctive artwork, called 27 Light Years, is part of the Rusholme Project which is celebrating the diversity of the Rusholme area.

Mr Gupta and fellow Asian artist Rashid Rana, who between them have had exhibitions in Singapore, Australia and Venice, have work on display.

The artists were commissioned by Shisha, an international charity based in Manchester which promotes and develops the work of South Asian artists on the visual arts scene.
