Dancing Diva Madhuri Dixit has been approached to play India's former PM Indira Gandhi in a biopic to be directed by filmmaker Krishna Shah.

The reining actress of the 80s is seriously considering the part and is in negotiations with the director.

The film, which still needs the approval of Indian congress minister, Sonia Gandhi - Indira Gandhi's daughter-in-law - will be a challenging project for everyone involved

Jagmohan Mundhra tried making a a film on Sonia Gandhi but his efforts were deadlocked by the ruling regime. Two years ago, N. Chandra was to direct Manisha Koirala as Indira Gandhi in a project entitled "Indira Gandhi: A Tryst With Destiny". That too never happened.

Golden Globe nominated Shah has been writing the script of the film 'Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story' for last 23 years and plans to bring it on screen by the end of 2011.
