CHALTE CHALTE - Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee
A VERY sweet and endearing movie boasting the King Khan and the
gorgeous Rani Mukherjee.
The film has nothing new in plot, but the star performances,
well-handled script, screenplay and great music will make it sprint
to the finish line.
It begins with the story of Raj (Shah Rukh), an impulsive and
sentimental man, who accidentally (and literally) bumps into Priya
(Rani), a practical and rich heiress.
Priya is soon-to-be engaged with childhood friend, Sameer but after
some precious and beautiful moments spent with Raj, who is head
over heels in love with her, Priya realises that she too loves
him.
Shot in remote locations of Greece, the wooing between Raj and
Priya takes you through some of the rich cultural heritage of that
country.
Priya breaks off the engagement with Sameer and marries Raj with
the approval of her family and that's when the story gets
interesting.
Post-marriage - the cracks start to show in their relationship. To
some people, this is reminiscent of the film Saathiya, however,
Saathiya deals with the meaning of love, whereas this movie deals
with the idea that men are from Mars and women are from Venus and
how both sexes think so differently, show their emotions
differently and basically misunderstand each other. Thus, shadows
of Saathiya can be set-aside.
The movie does have some loose-ends (especially in the climax scene
when Rani is leaving Raj forever. The weeping scene between the
couple gets a bit corny and the cringe factor does begin to
rise).
Shah Rukh looks slimmer and has done a marvellous job as usual. He
fits right into the role of Raj.
Rani looks more gorgeous than ever before with a new wardrobe and
presentation. She sizzles on-screen and does justice to her film
character. It is hard to imagine how Aishwariya (who was originally
chosen to play the role of Priya) would have fitted into the role,
let alone have done it justice.
Still another plus is the superb music. Two beautifully composed
songs, ''Suno na'' and ''Tauba tumhare'' are shot in excellent
locations.
Though the supporting cast does an adequate job the movie belongs
to both Shah and Rani.
Watch Chalte Chalte with your significant other and you are bound
to love it!
