Another film flop for Fardeen
3/ 2/2004
JANASHEEN: Starring Feroz Khan, Fardeen Khan and Celina Jaitley
IT'S first time together for father and son Feroz and Fardeen
Khan but unfortunately they meet in what must be the most dreadful
Bollywood films released for a long time.
Despite the glossy promo and the OK music, the film is a stinker -
mainly due to the abominable acting by Fardeen Khan and his co
stars.
You need to be laid back almost to the point of coma to sit through
what director Feroz Khan calls a complete entertainment but what is
often a screeching advertisement for beach-wear and deeply plunging
cleavages.
The story's drunken progress is constantly interrupted by skimpy
beach short and bikini appearances of Fardeen, model turned actress
Celina and a sorry unknown Pinky Hirani.
Before girl readers get excited over the prospect of a half naked
Fardeen - the site of a fairly hairy and pudgy man gyrating his
pelvis in beach knickers is not a pretty sight.
Fardeen plays a young and reckless would be super bike champ, Lucky
Kapoor who lives 'down under'.
Lucky is forced back to India to settle his estranged father's
affairs.
There he meets Jessica [Celina Jaitley], a famous violinist with a
tragic past and they fall in love.
But Jessica is hiding a secret about Lucky's dead dad and this
affects their relationship.
Feroz Khan plays Saba Karim, a fugitive from Afghanistan also
living in Australia. Saba is a rich and ruthless businessman who
finds a likeness to his dead son in Lucky.
Pinky should definitely not give up her day job. She plays singer,
murderess and all round baddie Kashmira.
Her aim in life is to seduce and kill men for kicks. Pinky's clown
like approach to this sinister brief is totally
unconvincing..
Janasheen is model Celina's debut film. She too should stick to the
catwalk.
She may well have been picked for her looks but under the generous
top soil of make-up it was hard to tell and finally her dancing had
no rhythm.
In the finishing fight Celina's face gets thrust in a plastic bag.
As she suffocates Fardeen rushes to the rescue and then proceeds to
wallop the baddie for a good 10 minutes while the stricken heroine
slowly gasps for breath - how heroic!
With or without a plastic bag Celina is equally deadpan. Her out of
breath delivery needed attention and she must think harder next
time about what roles suit her.
Fashion changes far outweighs scene changes so we get Celina
gyrating from evening gown to a bikini often bowing on a violin - a
bizarre distraction from what should have been the story
line.
The cinematography by Neelabh Kaul (who did such a decent job of
Out Of Control) is as patchy as Feroz Khan's Arabian-Afghani
accent.
Some of the characters and their affections are fairly strange.
While Jessica's brother is paired with the ogre-like siren
Kashmira, Johnny Lever's leading lady is a chimpanzee and they even
undergo a wedding at the end!
Fardeen Khan has had enough bad films with Khushi and Jungle.
Janasheen is just another flop to add to his flailing career.
