Are you Britain’s answer to Rai?
4/ 5/2004
BOLLYWOOD producers are looking for fresh talent from the UK to
star in a romantic Romeo and Juliet themed movie based in the
Punjab.
Stance Studio Production in India have already found their male
lead role, a British Asian who was shopping in India when he was
spotted by director Rajesh Sharma and invited him for a screen
test.
The young Brit was successful in getting the part even though he
did not have any acting experience but had a traditional face and
looked the part for the film.
He then suggested to Rajesh that Stance should look for fresh new
faces from across the UK especially as Britain has the largest
Bollywood fan base outside of India with many British Asians keen
to break into Indianfilm industry.
The film is a remake of 'Mirza Sahiba' and is based on a true story
of starcrossed lovers in the Punjab.
The original version was made in the 1940s and starred Shammi
Kapoor and the late comedienne Tun Tun.
There are 10-15 roles up for grabs including the female lead role -
and the best bit, is that experience is not necessary but Stance
say motivation, self enthusiasm and self belief is.
Filming will take place in the UK and in India and auditions will
be held throughout this month.
Spokeswoman for Stance, Alia Syed said: "This is a great
opportunity for British Asians to make their mark in
Bollywood.
"We realise there is so much untapped talent within the Asian
comunity in Britain and we want to unleash their talent and give
them an experience of a life time.
"Once a young actor becomes known in India, opportunities will come
to develop a career and climb up the ladder of success.
"In India, directors are always on the lookout for new faces, it
will be great to see what the public make of British actors.
"There are many Brits who are making their mark in the
sub-continent, for example Sophiya who now heads her own programme
on MTV Asia and has released an album, Stereo Nation are huge and
there are plenty of British Asian models who are making it
big.
"This opportunity is not to be missed."
