Raghav joins fight against poverty

29/ 8/2005

POP sensation Raghav has given his support to Oxfam's 'Make Poverty History' Rakhi campaign.

Raghav, one of the UK's most exciting Asian artists, took time out from his headlining performance at the Manchester Mela to support Oxfam who have produced a limited version of the 'Make Poverty History' white bracelet for this years Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan festival.

The specially designed band features a Hindi inscription of 'sisters and brothers unite', and has been designed to give all Asians the opportunity to support the campaign.

Those celebrating the Rakhi festival were encouraged to wear the bracelet with their traditional Rakhi bands to symbolise the theme of unity central to both the Rakhi festival and Make Poverty History.

Said Raghav: "On Rakhi day, when we celebrate with our brothers and sisters, we should remember all our brothers and sisters around the world, many of whom live in poverty. Wearing Oxfam's special Rakhi band shows solidarity for the Make Poverty History campaign, and I believe that it's important for people from every community to come together to fight poverty.

"I will definitely be buying one for Rakhi Day and encourage everyone to visit one of the participating shops or the website to get their own."
