Drink-driving Juggy gets two-year ban

19/12/2006

PUNJABI singer Juggy D has been banned from driving after being caught behind the wheel whilst under the influence of alcohol..

The star, who has included lyrics attacking drink driving in his songs, was pulled over by cops in Hanwell, London last month.

They found 53 milligrams on a breathalyser - substantially above the 35mg legal limit.

The singer appeared under his real name, Jagwinder Dhaliwal, at Ealing Magistrates Court.

He was disqualified for driving for 12 months and had to pay court costs of £59.

Despite his brush with the law, Juggy D will not be stripped of his nomination in the best act category at the UK Asian Music Awards.

A music insider said the ban would not effect his popularity with fans.

He said: "At the end of the day everyone makes mistakes, I am sure his fans will be a little disappointed but it is a personal matter."

"The fact that some of his songs are anti-drinking should not be taken out of context.

"Things change, he is still one of Britain's biggest Asian artists."

Juggy and his management team at 2point2 Records have not made a public statement on the ban.

The singer, who has had hits with 'Soniye' and 'Hum Tum' was recently in Manchester where he performed to a excited audience at the packed out city centre club, M-Two.

He was joined by other popular acts including Aman Hayer, Jinx, RDB, Sahara and Manke E.
