Peshkar Production’s Masala Girls - The Green Room

Peshkar Production's Masala Girls , the Green Room

OLDHAM'S home-grown spice girls tackle everything from arranged marriages to riots in this comedy sketch show from the pen of Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati.

My favourite moments included the take on Jerry Springer show where 'Jaya Springer' talks to a feuding Asian family on the topic "I don't want to marry my cousin".

Another good laugh involves three Asian girls making themselves up in a club toilet and acting like black street chicks when a real black girl comes in, looks in the mirror and comments "bet you can't roll chappati like I can".

Oldhamers in the audience loved the skit on Asian young men and their thoughts on the riots which were translated into English.

This was the first professional production of Masala Girls and Shobna was obviously pleased with the audience's response. There were nine in the production, some whom were performing for the first time and they carried of roles with professionalism and ease.

I didn't get all the jokes but all in all 'Masala Girls' was fun to watch.
