Bravo Raveena

SATTA is placed in familiar territory of Indian power politics.

It deals with the familiar topics of bribery and corruption, how crime infiltrates public life and the widespread hypocrisy involved in the successful political career.

We have seen it before but the fact that the protagonist is female and portrayed by Raveena Tandon in a bravura performance makes this movie well worth a visit.

It starts off on a promising note with fiercely spirited Anuradha (Raveena), a woman with middle class roots, deciding to fulfil her burning ambition to make it big in the world.

Her journey is stalled when she marries a rich and a powerful politician whose reckless and amoral life involves rape, bribery and prostitution.

Anuradha becomes a neglected and a self-sacrificing housewife until her husband gets his come-upance in the shape of a dagger wielded by a relative of a woman he has violated.

The widow steps into her late husband's shoes and she plunges into the murky world politics, a power driven affair of betrayal and survival, where no-one can be trusted.

Anuradha battles through the swamp and evolves into a strong individual ready to take on the challenges that politics throws at her.

Raveena takes giant strides as an actor in this film constantly giving the right touches to her character. It is a performance that's bound to be and deserves to be noticed.

Raju Singh's music is easy on the ears. 'Gungunati Hain' is the pick of the lot.

On the whole, 'Satta' is an interesting political film with a different concept and I'm sure Raveena's acting will win praise from the critics.
