Readers' review: Mhariam

29/ 8/2007

By Les and Sue Pattison, Cheadle Hulme

OUR favourite cuisine is Asian, and we often visit Mhariam. It has all the qualities that make it our ideal Indian estaurant; quality of food, warm and friendly ambience, light and airy furnishing, efficient customer service and value for money.

Mhariam is essentially family orientated, and on Sundays children eat free with every adult meal purchased. Another added bonus is that you can bring your own beer or wine and there no corkage charge.

Mhariam serves all the style of dishes you would expect to find in a good Indian restaurant, using chicken, lamb, prawns or vegetables. There are the usual Tandoori clay oven dishes, curry dishes and Masala dishes. Their head chef has also created four special dishes using the knowledge and experience he has gained from having worked in some of the best hotels and restaurants in India: chicken chilli, chicken gorkali, murgh mossalam and chef's biryani.

On each visit we like to sample different dishes. On a recent visit we started with poppadoms and four dips, mint cucumber, onion, mango chutney and lime pickle, all very mouth-watering. Taste buds alerted, for our second course we shared onion bhajis and vegetable samosas, served with a crisp, fresh salad and mint sauce. For our third course we opted for one lamb zalfrezi, with deliciously tender chunks of lamb, and one chicken passanda, rich and creamy.

We shared two dishes of mushroom rice and pilau rice. Washed down with our own lager, this banquet only added up to about £20 for two. A delicious feast at a very reasonable price.
