Save the 'wow factor'
Jemma Gofton23/ 4/2008
I BET we can all sympathise with the lovely Lucy, who was such a good sport to volunteer for our Style In The City
make-under. After all, how many of us have shoved a pair of dark shades on to go to the shops when we can't find the Touche Eclat?
Actually, I have to admit that - away from the camera - I quite enjoy going for the natural look. Make-up to me is just that, it `makes me up' so, when I go out, people think I look glamorous.
If I had it slapped on all the time there would be no wow factor. Saying that, my off duty look from Style In The City does generate double takes and comments about late nights. It's a good job I'm thick-skinned!
As for what the great Manchester public thought about Lucy's attempts to strip back her look, don't miss tonight's show.
Challenge
What else do we have in store? Well, after shoe-horning myself into that super-tight Hervé Léger dress last week, I was handed another fashion challenge this week with the launch party of corset shop, In All Her Finery.
An old-fashioned alternative to today's Lycra magic knickers and body stockings, trying on a corset is a real experience as you gradually get sucked in while the ribbons are pulled tighter around your torso. Sounds painful, I know, but the slight discomfort is worth it when you see how fabulous your cleavage is and how wasp-like your waist is.
Fiona Stott is the owner and, with the help of The Prince's Trust, she was able to live out her dreams by opening this quaint store. On the night, she was resplendent in a black made-to-measure corset and full skirt. She also informed me that with enough manipulation you could get your waist down to about 23 inches. Girls, could we ask for more - glamour, killer cleavage and a tiny waist? Happy days!
And, finally, if you want a heads up on what the stars are wearing this spring/summer then tune in tonight because, as usual, we had access all areas to one of the city's most talked-about fashion shows.
Selfridges invited us along, with the likes of Coronation Street's Kym Ryder and Vicky Binns, to see this season's styles debut on the runway.
Which meant we got to catch up on two of our favourite pastimes at once - funky fashion and a good old gossip!
