Far tattoo squeemish
Jemma Gofton1/ 5/2008
NEVER let it be said that fashion reporting isn't all work, work, work. I was only pondering what a hectic week it's been as I sipped a glass or two at our champagne tasting assignment at The Palace Hotel. It's a tough job but someone's got to do it.
Actually, in my defence, it really was medicinal - to calm my quaking nerves after a rather gut-churning feature we had to film earlier in the week.
I'm such a baby when it comes to anything to do with needles, dentistry or surgery. In fact if you are an avid viewer of Style In The City you will notice that I am never present at any of the Botox, teeth-whitening or slightly squeamish items.
But this week we had two clinic-based pieces that needed filming on the same day. Producer Claire would normally give me the nod to stay away but since she can't be in two places at once I had to step up to the mark and take one of the gigs.
Tattoo removal
I had to decide between going to the dentist or watching tattoo removal. I plumped for tattoo removal as it sounded the lesser of two evils, since it's done with lasers. So, it was off to Bolton's Laserase I went to meet willing volunteer Charlene Bessell.
She has had one of her tattoos for 10 years but - as it had an ex-partner's initials on it - now wants to get rid. When I spoke to her about the procedure she likened it to an elastic band being pinged on her arm. Charlene will need to go back for about another 10 sessions but she took it all in her stride, and Style In The City will catch up with her towards the end of her treatment.
And just to let you know I was brave and professional - well as much as you can be with your eyes shut.
It wasn't all bad, however, as I did get to meet British fashion icon Jeff Banks. In town to talk about his work to the Manchester Fashion Network at The Circle Clue, he had tales a-plenty of his time with the likes of Vivienne Westwood, The Beatles and George Best.
Find out what he has to say - and more hot fashion, beauty, and lifestyle news in Style In The City, tonight at 8.30pm, and repeated throughout the week. Watch Channel M at Sky channel 203 or Virgin Media digital cable TV on channel 878. Visit channelm.co.uk for more information
