Most well-informed people would reject fluoridation. Maybe that's why authorities have allowed toothpaste manufacturers to do all the advertising. Advertisements don't have to tell the truth.

The truth is that the fluoride used in fluoridation is not natural at all. It's a contaminated waste product of the phosphate fertilizer industry.

The truth is that fluoride is neither a nutrient nor required for healthy teeth. Fluoride is a drug and, like all drugs, has side effects that affects different people in different ways from nausea and skin rash to arthritis and thyroid problems.

Fluoride should never ever be in anyone's water supply.

Why not Vitamin C - that's a nutrient that everyone needs and, unlike fluoride, doesn't build up in the bones to damaging levels.

   Dr. Nigel is dubiously elusive in his extolling the wisdom and benefit of fluoridation. However, what is even more disturbing is the fact that MY COMMENT to Dr. Nigel's spin is only the second response posted in your on-line version of your paper.

Wake up people of Great Britain. Your health ministry and your government is doggedly determined, hell or high water, to fluoridate you against your informed consent.

All British citizens should read the brilliant response to Dr. Nigel from Winston Smith, Esq. regarding why fluoridation in your country must not spread and the fluoridation programs which presently persist should immediately cease.

   I note in your article that "Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the foundation says: "It is a big concern that people know so little about fluoride " I think the same can be said for Dr Nige himself. The muck they so badly want to put in the water is not a naturally occuring chemical but rather the agressively toxic bi product of several polluting industries, most notably Aluminium. It doesn't even save teeth but in fact damages them and as a bonus can help produce thyroid problems, bone cancer, weight gain, loss of memory or intellect etc. A comprehensive list of associated illnesses can be found on elsewhere on the net for those who prefer the truth to the outpourings of vested interests mentioned in the MEN article.
