BODYSGALLEN HALL SPA

Where is it? Near Llandudno. Very easy to find when travelling by car.

Leave the A55 at junction 19, then follow the A470 towrds Llandudno and the hotel is one mile on the right.

The nearest railway station is Llandudno Junction.

What's it like? The spa at Bodysgallen is in the grounds of a 17th century country house, which has been sympathetically restored by Historic House Hotels Limited and boasts spectacular views over Snowdonia.

The spa is a short walk from the main house and has been converted from the original stone built farm.

Inside is a 50 ft swimming pool, spa bath, steam room, sauna, relaxation room, clubroom, together with five treatment rooms.

Top Treatment? It's got to be the "Ice cube facial" so-called by me after I tried out this new take on the bog standard facial by French skincare guru, Anne Semonin. As far as the UK is concerned, Anne Semonin treatments and skincare products are only available in London, in posh places like Claridges - and at Bodysgallen Hall.

Much of the facial follows a traditional route - buffing, cleansing, scrubbing, massaging and rubbing - after your particular skin type has been diagnosed by the therapist.

This is all very enjoyable and relaxing with the smells of aromatic oils sending you into the land of nod, when you've bored the poor therapist senseless with tales of how stressed-out you are.

But the piece de resistance comes at the end of the hour-long session, with the application of the ingenious ice cube.

The "Express Radiance Ice Cube", is rubbed over the skin until it melts and the result is a temporary face-lift, thanks to the "injection" of evening primrose oil, red algae and wild indigo. For up to six hours your skin is hydrated, plumped and those lines miraculously disappear.

Great for a night out on the town in Manchester, or an important date, but, unfortunately, come the morning the wrinkles will have returned. Oh well!

A range of Anne Semonin facials on offer, using the ice cube, from £68.

The low-down: ANNE SEMONIN BREAK: Available throughout the year, (Sunday to Thursday excluding Bank Holidays) with accommodation in a spa cottage suite.

The price per person is £250, including cooked breakfast, table d'hôte dinner, half a bottle of champagne per person in the room on arrival, with full use of the Bodysgallen Spa.

Treatments included are an Anne Semonin Deep Release Massage with Hot Stones, and an Anne Semonin Hydra Express Facial. A £30.00, allowance towards treatments for each additional night's stay is also included.
