Go glossy for spring
3/ 2/2004
Look good and stay healthy with Zahida Abbas
Assalamu Alaykum readers and Happy New Year.
The New Year is a time for people wanting to look and feel their
best. It's also a time when our pockets are at their all time
low.
However looking and feeling great doesn't mean you have to spend on
expensive treatments.
Just a few rituals done regularly will put that spring in your
step, that sparkle in your smile and that sheer gloss in your
hair.
Sounds too good to be true? Read on.
Glossy hair
Invest in a pack of
sunflower and pumpkin seeds.
These are available at most health food shops. Lightly toast them,
then place them in an airtight container. Regularly sprinkle them
on your cereal in the morning, on your salad in the afternoon or in
your soup in the evening.
The seeds will go a long way in improving the shine and texture of
your hair. To smooth down dry fly away hair, all you need is a pump
spray bottle. Add a few drops of hair oil to 4ml of water. Place in
the bottle and mix vigorously. Hold pump 3-4 inches away from your
hair and gently spray over hair. Comb through and watch the shine
emerge.
A spring in your step
Before
retiring for the night, slice half a lemon, a small orange and one
apple.
Place the fruit in a jug of water and cover over night. In the
morning boil the fruit and water. Squeeze lemon into the boiled
water, add a teaspoon of honey. When the water has cooled down sip
the water like tea on an empty stomach.
This will refresh you and get your digestive juices flowing. The
fruit can also be eaten, it's a good way getting to grips with
fruit as part of your five fruit a day plan.
The water can be drank over the course of the day and it will taste
fruity too.
Busy people can pour it into a flask and take it to work with
them.
Extra special skin glow
In every
women's magazine, there is stacks of information on keeping your
skin in tip top condition.
Well and good but one look at the prices leaves you gasping.
Let's make life a little easier.
Take a few sticks of cinnamon, with a handful of rice and grind
into powder.
Next add a teaspoon of turmeric powder, mix well and add enough
water to make a think paste.
Gently massage this scrub into your hands, feet and elbows and
knees.
This scrubs away dead skin, leaving you with smooth hands and
feet.
For an extra pamper - warm live yoghurt and brush onto the scrubbed
area, leave on for 10-15 minutes and wash off. The difference can
not only be felt but seen instantly.
I would recommend this treatment once every six weeks only.
