Take pride in your pedicure
30/ 6/2005
Asalamu Alaykum readers.
The summer seems to be here at last and you could plan a head to
toe makeover in preparation for your holidays. But if that sounds
like too much, why not just concentrate on getting your hands and
feet into immaculate conditions - especially as they are the most
neglected part of our bodies.
In just a few easy steps you can manicure and pedicure your hands
and feet to perfection. Glossy nails and soft smooth pinkish skin
on your hands and feet signal good health and impeccable grooming
standards.
Start with clipping your nails at a consistent length, then gently
file them but do not use a 'saw' action (backwards and forwards)
simply file gently in one direction. This prevents damage to the
nails.
Soften and revive feet and hands with a scrub. Feet can be pumiced
afterwards to get rid of dry hard skin around the heels and any
calluses. Keep a towel close to hand to dry hands and feet
afterwards.
To help soften tough cuticles, rub in cuticle remover and place
hands/feet in warn water to soak for 10 minutes.
Then apply cuticle oil on the cuticles.
Once hands/feet are dry, spend time massaging in hand/foot cream of
your choice. It is better to massage the feet from the toe to the
heel and then up - in the direction of the heart. Do the same for
the hands from each finger to the palm and then to the wrist, in
the direction of the heart. This stimulates the circulation and
minimises puffiness.
Use an orange stick to gently push back cuticles in tiny circular
movements. Do not cut them.
Clear any oil off the nails with a cotton bud and none acetone
remover.
Now the nails are prepared you can choose to apply nail polish, or
just clear polish for a more natural look. If applying dark nail
polish, always coat the nail with a good base coat. This prevents
dark colour of the nail polish from discolouring the natural nail.
Finish with a topcoat to seal the polish.
Toe nails are prone to chips and cracks so re-apply a top coat
every other day and massage in some nail oil everyday to give the
nails strength and suppleness.
If you follow the above you should have hands and feet you can put
on show any time and feel proud of them.
There are other ways of helping your nails to be less brittle and
keep in top condition, one of which is your diet.
Foods which can help nails be strong and supple can be derived from
milk, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and vitamin B6
supplements.
A good way to increase the amount of seeds you eat is to sprinkle
half a handful into your cereal.
It adds a different taste and gives you added goodness. Try this
and let me know the results. As usual you are free to share your
