Ready for winter

Aslamu alaykum readers. Hope you are well. Winter is back with a
vengeance! If weather predictions are anything to go by, this is
going to the coldest winter we have experienced for quite some
time. Winter not only brings with it the annual flu and colds, but
it also plays havoc with our skin.
The skin probably feels a lot drier, the cuticles are rough as is
the skin on the hands. The heels of the feet take some battering
too.
This is the time we should pay more attention to our hands and
feet and skin in general, especially the skin that is most exposed
to this bitter winter weather - the face.
So how is it best to look after our skin? Manicure and pedicures
can be costly, but worth considering. Doing it yourself can be time
consuming, so work out what is best for you. For the hands, always
moisturise after washing with a good moisturiser for everyday use.
Keep it in the kitchen in an obvious place so you won't forget to
use it.
Better still, wear washing up gloves, it's better for the skin and
less drying. Last thing before going to bed massage a nourishing
cream into the hands.
This will keep them soft though the night ready for the next day.
Keep this cream near your bed, so you will remember to use it
regularly.
It is easy to forget feet as they are often hidden under boots
and thick socks. Resist the excuse that 'no one is going to see
them, so I don't have to look after them right now.'
Socks and shoes should be changed as a matter of course every day.
Invest in two pairs of shoes, alternate between them on a daily
basis. Also change your socks daily. This is a must for healthy
feet. Every night before bedtime wash your feet, dry thoroughly
especially between the toes and moisturise with foot cream.
If heels are cracked, layer a thick wad of cream on the heels and
massage it in. Wear bed socks to bed as this will seal in the
moisturisers and protect the feet.
On a weekly basis, use the hard skin remover on the heels to
protect from splitting. Do this regularly and you will notice the
difference.
Facial skin takes the brunt of the weather. First it is
important to look at your skin-type carefully. Why not visit a
consultant freely available at most beauty counters in shopping
centres? It will not cost you anything an you will get free advice
on your skin type.
Your skin-type changes at least three to four times a year. It is
very easy to get used to one product but you should change creams
as skin-type changes.
Next month I am hoping to do a column on home remedies for aches, pains, flu, colds and general ill health. If readers have a remedy that works and is simple to make, e-mail them to me at asiannews@gmwn.co.uk
