Make your summer a journey to health
27/ 4/2006
Asalamu alaykum readers.
Hope you are well. The weather is now turning for the better
(hopefully) and this brings with it new emotions for us.
Maybe it's the start of a new way of life, a turning point, another
year to reflect and make those changes that you always said you
would.
Life is just full of uncertainties and changes from one year to the
next. One thing is for sure though, we are not getting any
younger.
If you really want to know the secret to stress free and youthful
life, simply follow the guidelines below. Try it for three
weeks.
It's not asking too much, no drastic changes to your lifestyle or
your pocket - try and believe and then drop me a line to let me
know how it was for you.
THE SIMPLE RULES
1. Cut down on smoking -
even if you take one a week less than you normally smoke - but you
can gradually build this up.
2. Take regular exercise - this can be a 30 minute walk around your
area. It has to be quite vigorous and you should get your heart
rate to go up.
3. Maintain a healthy weight - your GP should be able to gibe you a
weight/height ratio check. Target your ideal weight and work
towards reducing this little by little.
4. Cut down on processed and fast foods - replace a convenience
meal; with a home cooked dish. Be adventurous and try different
vegetables. Experimenting with food is a wonderful way of involving
the family and bonding.
5. Increase your intake of fruit and vegetables - especially with
summer around the corner, freshness is the key word.
6. Eat all the right fats - aim for two portions of oily fish a
week such as mackerel, sardines, salmon, pilchards and tuna.
7. Eat low fat protein - reduce red meat and cheese. Replace with
low fat milk, cheese and chicken.
8. Talk. Yes that's right, call up a few friends, book that weekend
together or form a walking group together, or catch up once in a
while. Don't get stuck in a rut.
9. Try something different - a new colour blouse/shirt that you
have not tried before. Or simply book a break or start a study
course that you have always wanted to do. Just do something that
you have wanted to do but never thought you'll have the time
for.
10. Sleep well - a good 6-7 hours sleep is sufficient for an
average adult. Time to repair the body from within. Try drinking a
warm glass of low fat milk before bed, or curl up with that book
you always wanted to read.
11. Stress less - learn to delegate tasks at home and at work.
Accept that you will not always get it right and close enough is
good enough.
12. Keep hydrated and try drinking at least 7 glasses of water a
day as our body needs it.
Follow these simple guidelines and feel the benefits. Life is
too short to worry about those things that you will never be able
to change so stop trying!
My secret formula is LESS STRESS+MORE REST=ACCEPT!
Are you having to stay at home this summer holiday?
