HYGIENE MISSION: Miriam and Sairah Shah of Safe Hands
Women clean up at awards thanks to gap in market

A PAIR of businesswomen are on a mission to eradicate deadly hospital superbugs after being awarded a prestigious prize.
Miriam and Sairah Shah are expanding into the contract cleaning business and will be offering their services to north west hospitals to help eradicate MRSA and C. difficile, after being named Businesswomen of the Year by the Rochdale-based Ethnic Minorities Support Group.
Their Milkstone Road-based business Safe Hands beat off tough local competition to win the accolade.
Safe Hands supplies qualified care workers to local authority-run specialist child centres and also to families across Greater Manchester.
Following their award, the Shahs have launched a new business, Ethiclean, providing contract cleaners for nurseries, colleges, schools, clinics and hospitals as well as office and domestic properties. They plan to use aromatherapy products for home and office cleaning to add an aromatic touch to their work.
Miriam, aged 28, a former child care worker said: “We recognised a big gap in the market for specialist cleaners. As far as hospitals are concerned, we believe that we make a significant impact in helping to eradicate serious infections such as MRSA and C. difficile.”
