Dilli voted best Cheshire restaurant

ALTRINCHAM'S Michelin-rated Dilli restaurant has been named "best restaurant in Cheshire" by members of the Hi-Life Dining Card.

Dilli beat four other finalists – including the town’s nearby ‘Francs’, Chorlton Green’s ‘Marmalade’, ‘Brasserie 10/16’ in Chester and ‘Nunsmere Hall’ at Oakmere.

The award was among 14 presented at a prestigious, star-studded Oscar-style ceremony at Manchester city centre’s Hilton Hotel.

Dilli – which opened in Stamford New Road, Altrincham, less than four years ago – has quickly gained a national reputation for its range of traditional, regional cuisine from throughout the Indian sub-continent.

Four months ago it was honoured in the Manchester Food and Drink Awards for its vegetarian dishes – and, shortly before, The Times had listed Dilli at the head of its top UK Indian eating places.

Since Manchester food critic Neil Sowerby first wrote about "the tastiest Indian food I've eaten since I was in Bombay" Dilli has been praised by journalists from Asian News to The Independent and The Observer.

"Hi-Life members have now given us the ultimate praise as the best restaurant in Cheshire," said Dilli’s chef director Ravi Bajaj.

"We are grateful for their support of our vision to bring the real taste of India to the North West."

Dilli recently announced plans to hold Altrincham’s first festival of Indian food. The month-long event will begin on March 22 - the first day of Holi, the two-day Hindu ‘festival of colours’ and one of India’s major religious festivals.
