Awards will recognise achievements of young Scots

The Young Scottish Minority Ethnic Awards have been inaugurated to highlight the value of Scotland’s youth from all minority ethnic backgrounds and to recognise and reward those who have inspired others and positively contribute to life in Scotland.

The event which will take place at the Scottish Parliament on 5 September 2008 will also recognise the achievements of minority ethnic youth in the following categories: Community Contribution; Best Arts Contribution; Sports Achievements; Friend of the Environment; Career Achievement; Future Political Force; Science & Technology/Engineering Initiative; Apprentice of the Year; Spirit of Scotland.

Young Scots from minority Ethnic backgrounds aged between 14 and 26 years are eligible for nomination. The nominations are now open and will close of the 8th of August – the nomination form is available on the website www.whozthedaddy.info.

Around 200 people are expected to attend the inaugural Young Scottish Minority Ethnic Awards – guests will comprise of individuals and businesses with an interest in youth activity from a range of fields, as well as community leaders and public officials.

The event will begin at 4pm and wrap up at 9pm – consisting of a buffet meal, electric entertainment and fun filled speeches by representatives of Scotland and its dignitaries.
