Doctors turn their hands to running a restaurant

30/ 9/2008

FROM prescriptions to pakoras, two doctors are spicing up the lives of curry lovers in Ramsbottom.

Dr Padmini and Dr Dev Sankar have opened their new Indian resturant, Sanmini’s, offering customers mouth-watering dishes.

The couple previously ran a successful catering business Mini’s Kitchen.

They bought Carr Bank Lodge, in Ramsbottom Lane, and have converted it into a restaurant specialising in south Indian cuisine.

Padmini, known as Mini, works in the radiology department of the Royal Bolton Hospital while Dev is an anaesthetist with Pennine Acute Trust.

They will run the business with sons Sav and Hari and daughter-in-law Jayshee.

Dev said: ‘When people think of Indian food they think of tandoori chicken and tikka masala, but we don’t have that and we don’t use any artificial flavourings.

‘People keep saying that they have not seen any traditional food like ours north of London.’
