BREWING brothers Ajmail and Sudarghara Dusanj have won a supermarket challenge with a new raisin flavoured beer.
The owners of Liverpool's last surviving brewers Cains rose to Tesco's Autumn Beer Challenge and carried off first prize with their Fine Raisin Beer which will now be featured on the shelves of 650 of the chain's stores.
The beer is described as: "A rich, seductive fruit and amber ale enhanced by the infusion of succulent Californian raisins".
It beat 80 other premium bottle ales to win the Tesco title which the brothers hope will make it a best seller.
Sudarghara said raisin beer was the kind of unusual ale they wanted to create at the brewery.
He said: "The taste is unique and yet it certainly isn't an overpowering flavour.
"There has been a lot of talk recently about beers which go well with food but we aren't just talking about it, that is exactly what we've created here - it excellent with cheeses, red meat or game."
The prize winning raisin beer is just the latest success for the brothers.
They saved the brewery from closure when they bought it in July 2002. Since then they have secured a major canning contract with the Co-op and produced another award winning ale in support of Liverpool's successful Capital of Culture 2008 bid.
