Beer bothers are jewels of the north

BREWING Brothers Ajmail and Sudarghara Dusanj can add another trophy to their showcase at the brewery they own - the northern Asian Jewel award.
They beat off other Asian business personalities, including the man and wife team who run Patak's Foods, to take the business and commerce excellence award.
The brothers have saved the Cains Brewery - the last of its kind on Merseyside and have introduced several new beers.
After receiving the award at a glittering ceremony in Manchester Sudarghara said: "This is as much for the hard work of everyone at the brewery as it is for us. If our team didn't share our passion for our beers and pubs we wouldn't be half as successful. Ajmail and I came to the north of England as businessmen who had purchased a company in need to an injection of cash and enthusiasm - I hope we have demonstrated our commitment to both of those."
Other winners were: Zahida Manzoor, legal services ombudsman for England and Wales, award for professional excellence ; Lancashire County Council chairman, Vali Patel, award for public service; Usha Parmar, head of Sunrise Radio (Yorkshire), award for media and arts; Dr Mohammed Iqbal, surgeon and consultant audiologist, award for health and education; Cheshire Homes managing director Mohammed Arshad, award in small business category and Dr Shiv Pande and Anil Ruia, lifetime achievement awards.
The Jewel Awards are sponsored by Lloyds TSB and the Institute of Asian Professionals.
Said institute chairman, Khalid Darr: "Asian men and women are injecting energy into communities, bringing new qualities to the word of business, introducing fresh thinking to the arts, fashion and modern pop culture."
