Award for inner city doctor

AFTER a quarter of a century of tending to the health needs of
inner city Manchester a doctor has won an award for
excellence.
Dr Sarawati Sinha's Moss Side practice has been given a commended
performance award by the Central Manchester Primary Care
Trust.
To achieve the award the practice had to meet a series of tough
targets linked to the health of their patients and efficient
working methods.
Dr Sinha (pictured), a member of her local medical council and a
prominent member for the Manchester Indian Association, started the
practice in the early 80s.
She worked single handedly in a very demanding inner city area with
chronic health problems - including high rates of heart disease,
diabetes and drug addiction.
Hard work and persistence paid off and she works with three doctors
in a modern clinic off Alexandra Road, Moss Side.
It has pioneered many innovations including holding open days for
patients.
Dr Sinha qualified as a doctor in India and came to the UK to
finish post graduate studies in general practice.
She is married to Ashit Kumar Sinha who is the practice development
manager.
They have three grown up children - two daughters and a son who is
a consultant at Bolton Royal Hospital.
