CURRY king Farooq
Ahmed scooped the top prize at this year's Rochdale curry chef
competition.
Farooq (pictured above), who also won last year going onto become the North West curry champion, came first out of six finalists despite never having made his winning culinary creation before.
Farooq, of Veenas Restaurant in Heywood, started with black halibut, courgette and spinach topped with bombay mash potato.
His main course was an Asian style duck dish cooked with mango, garlic and coriander, on a bed of pasta and baby vegetables.
His rice dish took on a sweet theme, with vanilla and cinnamon added and all encased in puff pastry.
Said Farooq: "It felt great to win again.
"The competition is a great thing to have as the standard is always very high."
Abdul Noor from Milnrow Balti came second and Jamal Ahmed from Raj Restaurant came third.
