VEGANS in Tameside can now put a bit more spice into their lives
thanks to amateur cook Sudha Raina.
Housewife Sudha has adapted vegetarian recipes to suit vegans who
do not eat any animal product.
Sudha, aged 60, who came to the UK from India 20-years-ago, got the
idea for the book from vegetarian Kath Hepburn while she was
teaching her hindi.
She said: "I really enjoy cooking and found a lot of the recipes
could easily be adapted to the vegan style. It's even easier now
you can use soya milk."
Said friend Kath: "There are many Indian vegetarian books in the
shops today but very few are completely vegan ones.
"Sudha has adapted her favourite vegetarian dishes so that they can
be enjoyed by vegans as well."
Her book, 'Spicy Vegan', is priced at £10.99.
THE Asian answer to Delia Smith has just put her mastery of
Indian cuisine on disc.
Chef Zahda Saeed has been running a successful cookery school at
her home in Wilmslow for years and has now 'cut' an interactive DVD
for student further afield.
Called 'How to Cook Authentic Indian Dishes' it features her,
Delia-style', working through a range of menus.
The disc includes quick and easy preparation tips which have been
tried and tested by students in her home classes.
Some of the recipes have been handed down through generations and
Zahda often turns to her family for advice.
Her parents moved from the Punjab in the early 1960s.
She said: "Both my mother and mother-in-law are fabulous
cooks."
