DON'T know what to do with that expensive wedding lengha?
New e-bay entrepreneur Renu Kapila might have the answer
The 25-year-old budding businesswoman got her idea when she was
putting the finishing touches on her own outfit for a friend's
wedding.
She said: "I looked around me and I was surrounded by women dressed
in wonderful, colourful Indian attire, right down to the very last
bindi.
"I was fascinated at how beautiful everyone looked and by all the
time, effort, planning and money that goes into preparing for
traditional Asian weddings. Most Asian girls want a big wedding,
but they can be very expensive.
"There can be three days of celebrations, with a different outfit
for each occasion, but once it is over the clothes and accessories
are put away in wardrobes and garages and never brought out
again.
"I came up with the idea for an Asian internet auction site and
portal, which allows customers to buy and sell old wares. Not just
that, but a site that also takes some of stress out of organising
weddings and events through the click of a button.
The Manchester business graduate website -
www.bollywoodbay.co.uk - blends
the ancient traditions of the bazaar with the latest technology,
selling everything from saris to DVDs.
She plans to expand the site over the coming months to allow small
and medium-sized Asian businesses to register.
Renu, from Cheadle Heath in Stockport, said: "It's not just about
weddings. There are all different types of goods available and
small and medium-sized businesses will soon be able to register and
create their own dedicated websites within Bollywoodbay, making it
an Asian internet portal."
