Trade fair crowd viewed women’s arts and crafts

BANGLADESHI businesswoman showed what they had to offer at the
north west's first ever Bangla trade fair.
The event at Hyde Town Hall attracted nearly 7000 visitors.
The venue was transformed into a colourful and vibrant Bangladeshi
bazaar as stalls displayed hand crafted jute products, silk and
cotton saris and jewellery.
While some visitors tried on traditional Jamdani saris, those who
wanted to learn a bit more about the culture and music of the
country, were entertained on stage by popular Bangladeshi singers
including Baul Shoheed, Deepa, Soaful and dancer Sakiba dazzled the
crowds with some Kathak.
The aim of the event, titled 'Bangladeshi Women's Small
Entrepreneur Trade Show,' was to promote Bangladeshi ethnic
products as well as introduce the culture to the UK.
Nearly 60 women entrepreneurs, majority of whom are involved in the
arts and crafts trade which includes basket making, weaving and
potters arrived from Bangladesh for the three-day event.
Said Farooq Ahmed of organisers, Bangla Promotions: "This was a
great opportunity for people to see what our great country had to
offer.
"There are many skilled female led businesses who have been making
household goods and arts and crafts for years and we wanted them to
show their products here in the UK. It was also an opportunity for
the traders to make contact with UK based businesses."
Women power was also celebrated in Lancashire were budding
businesswoman from ethnic minority backgrounds were brought
together by the Asian Business Federation (ABF) to celebrate women
in business.
Three 'Inform! Inspire! Invest!' events were held in Blackburn and
Burnley to recognise and support women's business ideas, engage
them in local activities and provide free information about setting
