Website lifeline for Nile kids

30/ 5/2006

POOR children in Egypt (pictured left)should soon be better-off thanks to the charitable action of a Rochdale hi-tech company.
The Blackburn-based Thebes Project collects money for special needs children who live on the impoverished west bank of the River Nile.
It has two centres in Gezira and Hergaza which offers the deprived children equipment to help them with their disabilities, toys and physiotherapy.
But the Thebes Project was desperate for a website to spread the message and collect donations on-line.
To the rescue came Nahda Technologies, based on Milkstone Road in the heart of Rochdale's Asian Community.
Owner Faz Mukhtar came across members of the project in Rochdale town centre.
He said: "I was impressed with what they were doing. I thought their work really worthwhile. But they were very frustrated having waited for a-year-and-a-half for a website.
"So we at Nahda decided to create one for them free of charge. Already there have been visitors to the site who have taken an interest in the project."
Thebes founder, Joy Bishop said: "We offer vital resources to these children in Egypt who otherwise would have to go without. But we have a constant struggle to raise the funds. We have needed a site for so long and now people can donate online and we hope this will help significantly."
