Scientist Sima socks it to ‘em

"THE universe is full of things that are hard to locate, such as
matching socks. You can sometimes find them, and sometimes you
won't, but at least they can only be in one place at one
time.
"But stop. That's not exactly true if you believe in quantum
mechanics.
"Weird as it seems, this theory states that your sock could be
hiding in your laundry basket and under your bed at the same
time."
Got that? If you have you may well be seeing a lot more of
Manchester-born stunning scientist Dr Sima Adhya. This was her 90
second explanation of mind boggling quantum mechanics. The timed
explanation was a test set her and nine other finalists in a
nationwide contest to find the TV science presenter of the future.
TV bosses ruled that they need to be able to bring alive the
complex mysteries of the world.
The result can be heard on Channel 4's FameLab website. Over the
next few days, internet users will be invited to vote for their
favourite would-be presenter. Dr Adhya, aged 29, educated at
Manchester High School for Girls, already has a key role in an
international project designed to develop technology to deal with
the future threat of a giant asteroid on collision course with
Earth.
Sima harbours hopes of one day going into space herself, but in the
meantime occupies herself with learning to fly and Bollywood
dancing.
As a contestant in Channel 4's FameLab Dr Adhya had a choice of
making quantum mechanics sound simple, or tackling the subjects of
why water doesn't burn and what makes the octopus different from
other sea creatures.
