The A stars are just keeping it in family

PUPILS and parents at Balderstone Technology College all praised the school after another year of good results.

Hassana Afzal’s family are celebrating for the second time in two weeks after she scored two A* grades, six As and a B.

The youngster is on her way to Oldham College to study maths, English literature, law and economics.

Her brother Hasan appeared in last Saturday’s Observer A level coverage after gaining four A grades at the college and securing a place to read medicine at Leicester University.

Unlike her brother, who is following in their dad Afzal Anwan’s footsteps and training to become a doctor, Hassana is considering a career in law.

Mum Shaista Afzal said: "All three of our children have done very well at Balderstone."

Identical twins Joseph and Andrew Hoyle also followed in their siblings’ footsteps by scoring top grades.

The Hoyle family has a long history at the school, the twins’ older brothers John and James scored high grades at the school before going on to attend universities in York and East Anglia.

Andrew achieved four As and five Bs and will study history, ancient history, English literature and sociology A levels.

Joseph scored gained four As, three Bs and three Cs.

He also wants to do history and ancient history A levels, as well as English and drama.

Music and drama star Kelly Williams had more than one reason to celebrate her top grades – her mum promised to buy her a piano if she achieved two As.

She went one better and got three, along with four Bs and a C.

The talented youngster will study English language and literature, performing arts and sociology at Oldham Sixth Form College.
