Kids just can’t keep away from school

13/11/2007

A SCHEME to improve attendance figures at an Accrington school has proved successful.

Pupils at Spring Hill Primary on Exchange Street enjoyed a full school assembly last week to celebrate some of the children’s 100 per cent attendance record during October.

The 159 youngsters who made the grade were awarded certificates and prizes for their efforts.

Over the last three years Spring Hill has been working with Lancashire County Council’s education and welfare officer, Alison Maden, on ways of improving attendance.

The school has exceeded targets during each of the three years and headteacher Stephanie Grimshaw said she was thrilled with the pupils’ dedication.

She said: "We have been working very hard on attendance rates and wanted to celebrate this with pupils. We are constantly trying to improve rates. The focus month in October was very successful."
