Ofsted praise

29/11/2007

YEAR 6 pupils at Roundthorn Primary have been highly praised by Ofsted inspectors, who have described them as “wonderful ambassadors in their attitudes to work, relationships, and care”.

The school is mainly made up of Asian youngsters who have English as a second language, and it also has an above average number of pupils with learning disabilities.

Children start nursery with a low level of attainment and this was still the case at the start of Year 1. However, pupils were seen to be making progress by Year 2. In Years 3 to 6 the progress was good and this year's Year 6 results were close to the national average.

Significant progress was found to have been made in mathematics and writing, though progress was slower in reading. A structured reading scheme has been introduced to try and address this.

Behaviour is good and attendance improved. The overall standard of education was considered “satisfactory”.
