The students who are happy to help

8/ 1/2008

Students at Matthew Moss High School have won an award in memory of Princess Diana.

Peer mentors have taken on the role of supporting their fellow pupils, in particular those in their first year.

The Diana Award is a living legacy to the late princess and reflects the outstanding contributions of young people.

Matthew Moss learning mentor Debra Darnbrough nominated the group of 14 and 15-year-olds, who have all demonstrated their commitment to helping others.

She explained that H2H (Happy to Help) students apply to be involved in the scheme and have an informal interview.

If successful, they receive a full day’s training from professionals.

Ms Darnbrough said: "They give their all to it and take their role very seriously. Some of the work involves supporting pupils from primary school on their transition to high school.

"They also support students who may have different issues and feel more comfortable speaking to someone their own age."
