Headteacher Ian Fenn turned radio presenter for the launch of Burnage Media Arts College’s own radio station.

Mr Fenn hit the airwaves for the college’s first broadcast and he proved a class act.

The station will be picked up by radio users within a radius of three miles, on frequency 106.1FM.

Pupils using the new facilities will be able to hone their skills as budding presenters.

Students are already putting together a variety of programmes using their new state-of-the-art professional recording suite.

A weekly music and information show will be played in classrooms during registration.

Some pupils have also been handed the opportunity to work at Levenshulme-based ALL FM community radio station. Others have visited Key 103.

It is all part of the college’s drive to become the best media education facility for teenagers in Manchester.

Dionne Spence, media co-ordinator at Burnage Media Arts College, said: "The radio station will provide opportunities for students to train in all aspects of radio, from IT to editing and script-writing to broadcasting."
