LIFE in the fast lane could soon be tasted by budding Lewis Hamiltons at Springhill High School.

A 15-strong team is gearing up to build an eco-friendly racing car in the hope of scooping a top prize.

But the Year 8 pupils need your help to ensure their dream comes true.

The had of technology, Steve Taylor, explained: "This will be the first time we’ve entered the competition and the pupils can’t wait.

"They have to built a fully functional car and then race it on a professional track. It will be the experience of a lifetime.

"They will learn about the environment and, you never know, it could lead to a career for them.

"Businesses will be able to advertise their brands on the side of the car. It will be quite expensive but we’ve already purchased the motor and batteries."

The Greenpower Formula 24 challenge aims to promote careers in engineering and technology.

The team’s will have to impress at the regional heats in Liverpool this September to reach the national final.

Mr Taylor added: "We’ve got very high hopes for them and I’m sure they’ll work really hard.

"Any help from businesses would be helpful. We even need support from welding firms to construct the car."
